Nowadays, if we do not have electronic devices, we cannot survive, because wherever we go, we will use electronic devices. For example, when we buy things, we are getting into the habit of using electronic wallets to pay; when we wake up, the first action we do is to scroll through our handphones. As technology advances at a rapid pace, many industries have started to include electronic devices into their day-to-day operations, and that includes education. Ever since the pandemic started, education has merged daily teaching tasks with various online platforms. This results in students having more knowledge in electronic devices. Even though many schools have resumed their physical operations, and there are also some people who believe that electronic devices should not be included in schools anymore, however, in my opinion, students should be allowed to bring electronic devices to school as they can communicate with other people during emergencies, use electronic devices to look up information, use electronic devices to record important matters, and use electronic textbooks instead of heavy physical textbooks.
First and foremost, I agree that students can bring electronic devices to school because they can communicate with other people during emergencies. When parents have urgent matters and want to contact the students, they can phone or message the students immediately. For instance, if the student or the student’s family encounters problems, students can communicate with them. Furthermore, when the students have problems and want to ask their teachers, they can use electronic devices to ask their questions via online chatrooms such as WhatsApp and WeChat. Consequently, if schools do not allow students to bring electronic devices, both the parents and the students will be nervous. Hence, during emergencies, students can communicate with other people.
In addition, by bringing electronic devices to school, students can use it to look up information. When students have questions or problems and are too shy to ask the teachers, they can use electronic devices to check the questions. Moreover, when they encounter words that they do not know how to pronounce or words that they do not understand, students can look them up immediately on the internet. Therefore, students do not have procrastination problems regarding homework. Moreover, if students do not bring electronic devices to school, students are supposed to look up information after school, but students usually procrastinate. As a result, bringing electronic devices to school can bring many advantages to students in their homework.
Another reason why students can bring electronic devices to school is because they can record important matters at school. There will be instances when the teachers teach very fast and students cannot follow. Therefore, the students can use electronic devices to record the lessons so that they can listen to the lessons repetitively. This method can help students effectively in their studies. Furthermore, when students encounter special occasions like inspirational or motivational speeches by their teachers or peers, they can use their electronic devices to record. Students can also record matters or situations that can remind them of meaningful things that happened in the past and or in their lives. In a nutshell, students can study easily because they can use electronic device to records.
Apart for that, students can also choose to use electronic textbooks instead of heavy physical textbooks if they are allowed to bring electronic devices to school. If electronic devices are allowed, students need not carry heavy textbooks every day to school because they have electronic devices and they can use electronic textbooks. Electronic textbooks can prevent the students' bags from being too heavy, and they can lower the risk of missing or forgotten books. Besides, electronic textbooks are also highly convenient. Students can bring the books anywhere they go, making revision a highly interesting activity. Additionally, electronic textbooks can attract students to read because electronic books have many pictures, videos, and audio that can keep the students engaged. Moreover, the cost of an electronic book is also lower than physical books. Thus, electronic textbooks can help students learn easily if electronic devices are allowed in schools.
To sum it up, I agree that students should be allowed to bring electronic devices to school because they can communicate with other people during emergencies, use electronic devices to look up information, use electronic devices to record important matters, and use electronic textbooks instead of heavy physical textbooks. However, I also acknowledge that there may be negative impacts. Therefore, I suggest that the school should enforce strict rules and clear guidelines to the students to ensure that the devices are used for educational purposes only.
